Holga 120N Images
My idea here was to capture the rays of the sun through the trees and the contrast between the darkness of the branches against the setting sunlight that breaches through them.I had also played around with double exposure in a few. When I developed the images I found that I really liked the blurry effect that I got from the movement of the camera when I took the image itself. I also really liked the double exposure that gives it a disorientated affect to them.
With my next set I wanted to see the experiment with a contrasting light concept, where instead of taking images with day light I would take them at night with artificial light. The LUX Light Show was the perfect place to do it.
Unfortunately I sorta skipped the first 3 chances to take the photo, but the rest came out very nice I thought. However this in negative and below is the positive.
I took the images on a black and white film to emphasize the light aspect even though the installations were mainly colour orientated and that would've distracted from what I wanted to achieve. I plan to incorporate colour with multi-media experimentation.
These images I took I had intended to be similar to my first ones but are too overexposed. However with a little bit of editing I managed to bring out some of the images that I wanted. These were also taken in colour but you can't really see that, which is fine because I had decided later that I wanted them black and white anyway. This is because I want to combine them with some coloured ones.
So desaturated them and brought the darkness out of them more.
Going back to the colour I instead inverted the colour and I got this. I really like the blue/green and some yellow hues that are dipicted. I also like how the images came out unrecognizable to what they actually have been captured of. This is because it gives off really nice textured illusions.
I desaturated it again to see whether the textures would be more prominent. I don't think they do as much but it still looks nice.
These are my coloured concentrated ones. I tried to get every colour of the rainbow. I also made these blurry/shaky as I wanted to show the colour more that the actual plant itself.
After the development of these images they did come out very colourful but not as I had hoped. Going from left to right with each row I think that numbers 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 11 came out alright and can be used. I especially like number 6 preferring how it mimics light with being slightly over exposed.
Experimented with candle wax. Since the film I was negatively developed and I wanted to have positive for this I dripped candle wax onto some wax paper and then scanned it in. Taking away the unnecessary background from the drops I copied and pasted the drops on the images to add splashes of colour. Even though I really liked these images they weren't what I was really going for so I scratched that idea and focused on nature again.
I have chosen 9 that I want to use in collaboration with the chosen 9 below.
I love the beauty of nature and wanted to express that love through my images, but not to focus or emphasize the details of a branch or a flower. I want to express the emotion that I associate when viewing nature. By overlaying a coloured image over a black and white one I was able to create what I wanted too. That which I had created displays a whimsical atmosphere of nature and I included the drawing of the birds over top to illustrate the freedom of nature, which was why I also purposefully let them leak off the images and into each other to symbolize that nature is not many things but one thing. I also wanted these images to capture both the light and darkness of nature, which is why I kept the black and white ones inverted and kept the coloured ones bright. I also divided the images into sets of three to balance out the images and it becomes also more aesthetically pleasing to view.
