Project 1 - Technique

Proposal:

For this first project we are creating mini worlds through applying different techniques and skills by using photoshop. My intentions for my two mini-domes are to create one that is at night and one that is shot in daylight with both depicting areas of Wellington. I want to photograph wellington from on top of this hill near Newtown for my day world. For my night world I want to create and design a panorama that shows the moving car lights in the wellington CBD area.

First practices:

Panorama
Planet

Panorama
Planet

I practiced with masks and layering, clone stamping and blending, changing opacity and brush as well as experimenting with the different settings like vibrance and colours and a few others.

HDR:

HDR toning combines images of varying exposed light together to create a stunning visual affect. This is commonly used in movies to create an unrealistic/dream-like universe.

First Shoot Images:

Unfortunately all the images that made up my night world was stored on my USB drive that is now corrupted, but I was lucky and smart enough to have saved the final panorama and final polarized panorama on my computer before it too was corrupted. But will try and get it fixed to upload the images on here.

Here are my images for my day world though. Which I did have to retake as the other ones where I took birds eye view of wellington it self was stored on the unfortunate USB drive.

My Day Panorama:

My Day World:

I was inspired to show an iconic part of Wellington, so I chose The Basin. Once in panoramic view I adjusted the colours in the image to blend into each other better by changing the the vibrance and saturation. I had a small issue with the connecting line that brings the two edges together. However through applying what I've learned to clone, blend and overlaying of layers, I managed to create a beautiful mini world of The Basin Cricket Field.

My Night Panorama:

My Night World:

For this mini world I wanted to create something abstract that illustrates what Wellington City is. My definition of Wellington is that its a busy and fast paced city that is multi-cultural and off course a student city which includes the lit up nightlife aspect. To translate this into a mini world I took images from Courtney Place of the cars going past on a slower shutter speed to capture the light. I then edited the images to emphasize the light by colour selecting and then just darkening the rest by adjusting the levels. I did this for about 30 images. Then I overlapped all the layers to combine into one image and then mirroring it to become symmetrical. Then I polarized the panorama. I feel that I have successfully managed to create Wellington City.
